One of the most common post-construction mistakes is cleaning too early. Fine drywall particles settle gradually after active sanding stops:
- Heavier Dust Particles: Settle onto horizontal surfaces (floors, countertops, sills) within 1 to 3 hours after sanding ends.
- Fine Airborne Particles: Can remain suspended in room air for 12 to 24 hours under normal household ventilation.
- HVAC-Circulated Dust: If heating or cooling systems ran during drywall work, dust can recirculate through vents and registers until air filters are replaced.
Why Waiting 12 to 24 Hours Matters
If surfaces are wiped while fine particles are still suspended, a new layer of dust can settle overnight. Waiting at least 12 to 24 hours after sanding and contractor work are finished allows dust to settle so it can be removed thoroughly in a complete Post-Construction Cleaning visit.
